So you are interested in practicing Kendo or Naginata? This page has all the information you need to become a member of the EKNC!
If you are between the ages of 5 and 12 years, you can join the Children Kendo class. These students may join the EKNC at any time during the year. If you are 13 years or older, you can join the Adult Beginner class. Kendo and naginata both only accept Adult Beginners during the starting months of each semester, specifically September and March.
Before joining the club, it is recommended that you watch a practice to acquire an understanding of general Kendo and Naginata activities. Everyone is welcome to come and observe any practice listed on the Calendar page. There are usually several senior students available to answer any questions you may have. If you then decide that you would like to participate, please fill out a registration form and bring it to any practice during the appropriate starting month. All new students are also required to pay a one-time non-refundable registration fee (however the monthly fee is not charged for the starting month).
During the first month of practice as an adult beginner, you are allowed to try out both Kendo and Naginata to see which appeals to you. However, you may only continue to practice ONE art thereafter. Your final choice will be marked on your registration form.
If you already practice Kendo or Naginata and are visiting Edmonton, you are welcome to participate in our bogu practices at no cost. However, if you do wish to join the club to practice with us on a regular basis, you will be required to pay the registration fee.
