‘Aha!’ (2007) was written, scripted and directed by Enamul Karim Nirjhar. It was his first feature film and he won the National Film Award 2007 as Best Director and three other categories for best cinematography, best editing and best song. This film is about making the audience dream and again pull them back to the harsh reality. It carries one to the world of fantasy and also highlights veracity. This is a film about love and malice, empathy along with apathy. ‘Aha!’ was viewed in many international film festivals in Cairo, Dubai, Munich. It also got the National Nomination from Bangladesh for the 81st Academy Awards in the foreign language film category.
Independent filmmaking is the practice of the process of NOY BOCHORER BORO (I am nine plus) which is an effort to create a film style with the combination of talent and skill with everything that we have within all kinds of limitations. In the 52 years of independence in Bangladesh, many issues have affected the mental situation of people at different levels of the country. We want to appear in front of the audience through nine stories about those issues. In this belief, we are trying to find alternative ways by analyzing the current situation and giving importance to self-esteem. We don’t want to make films on a whim for various reasons. The number of films is 09, nine months of the liberation war, the desire to achieve freedom… all such thoughts initiated the process of filmmaking. What can be the role of a filmmaker when mindless and countless content is creating a nest of dishonesty in people’s brains? All the contemporary events, stories and arguments around us; who will portray them? Why we do not want to understand how we are through films? This initiative is trying hard to create a generation of intellectuals, not just thinking of selling and trading from a capitalist perspective. Its main purpose is to enlighten our time and thoughts. Long preparatory confidence and a vast store of stories are our main assets to work on the self-sustaining process. The theme of the stories is to play questions, get out of the rut and realize the deepest meaning of life. Every film will have a touch of originality. So we are fighting with everything we have to create a new process.
